John Whitfield Lewis, Jr.

John Whitfield Lewis, Jr., 49 of Elkton, MD, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at home. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, on December 13, 1957, he was the son of Peggy Wright Lewis of Charlestown, MD and John W. Lewis, Sr. and his wife Charlotte. He was married to Sandra Comegys Lewis for 23 years. Mr. Lewis graduated from North East High School in 1976. He was a coach for North East Little League and North East High School Girl's Softball, who went to the State Championships. Also he started and coached the Cecil Cyclones Fast Pitch Softball Team. Most recently, he was the Tome School Softball Coach. He was a member of the North East and the Charlestown Vol. Fire Department. He was a fireman at Bainbridge Naval Training Center and Aberdeen Proving Ground, Dept. of the Army. He was North East Town and Police Commisioner from 1988 to 1992. He attended St. John's U.M.C., Charlestown, MD and was a member of North East United Methodist Church, North East, MD. He was the owner and operator of Lewis Market, North East, MD. He enjoyed his dog Raffy, collecting decoys and watching purple martins. In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include: one daughter: Jessica W. Lewis, 20 years old, of Elkton, MD; one sister: Julie A. Lewis of Key Largo, FL and one brother: Steven L. Lewis and his wife Linda of Charlestown, MD; Three Nieces, Amanda Armour, Kristina Koch, and Velia Biagianti; and Five Nephews, Kevin Koch II, Tony Biagianti, John Comegys, Ryan Brown, and Adam Brown. He is also survived by a close family friend, Dawn Paoletti of Elkton, MD. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Fred and Jewell Wright, and paternal grandparents, James and Ogretta Lewis. Family and friends may call Tuesday, April 17, 2007 between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 3:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Rev. Mary Browne, of St. John's United Methodist Church, Charlestown will officiate. Interment will be in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Jessica Lewis College Fund, C/O Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
