John A. Hawley, 92, Elkton MD, formerly Binghamton NY, passed away July 25, 2024. He has joined the love of his life (Evelyn); his parents (Ernest and Helen); and his grandson (Sean), in heaven.
Our Dad was a Navy man who proudly served during the Korean War. His wit and understated sarcasm earned him the nickname “Cracker Jack Hawley”. It was funny to him, but not so funny to the officers. This did not phase him or deter him. Our Dad was very strong-willed…………in a good way.
He loved playing pool and bowling (he was excellent at both) and was a fierce competitor who did not like to lose! Dads’ buddies at the Cecil Woods Clubhouse can attest to that.
Our Dad was a good, kind, hardworking, understanding man. But mostly, he was a loving family man through and through; a devoted husband to our Mom, Evelyn, and proud, supportive father to us: John M. Hawley (Mary /Delta, PA); Scott A. Hawley (Elkton, MD) and Melissa M. McLaughlin (Nico / Newark, DE). Our dad was the epitome of a gentleman who always put his family first.
He was a loving grandfather to: Lauren, Sean and John Michael and great grandfather to: Eric and Lilianna.
A Celebration of our Dads Life will be held at a later date.
