Jerry Albert Hokuf, Sr., age 76, of North East, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at home. Born in Elkton, Maryland, on March 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank and Matilda Krejci Hokuf. He was a lifelong resident of Cecil County, Maryland. Mr. Hokuf served in the U.S. Marine Corps beginning in 1950 and was honorably discharged with a rank of Sergeant in 1953 and with the Good Conduct Medal. He was crew chief for the Marine Corps' first helicopter. He trained and worked as a machinist; he was in charge of the mechanical engineering lab at the University of Delaware in the late 1950s. He began and taught the first auto mechanics course at Elkton High School in the early 1960s and later outfitted and taught the machine shop at the Cecil County Vo-Tech Center, which at that time was new. He retired from W.L. Gore as a tool and die machinist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North East since 1959. Mr. Hokuf is survived by his wife of 52 years, Esther Puschell Hokuf, North East, Maryland; sons, Bronson R. Hokuf, Calvert, Maryland, Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Hokuf, Elkton, Maryland, and Jerry A. Hokuf, Jr., Sudlersville, Maryland; sisters, Matilda Gross, Detroit, Michigan, Lillian Loomis, Elkton, Maryland, and Betty Warren, Apache Junction, Arizona; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of North East, 206 Mechanics Valley Road, North East, Maryland, where family and friends are invited to call Friday, July 2, 2004, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and Saturday, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Hokuf of the First Baptist Church of North East, North East, Maryland, will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow the services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of North East, 206 Mechanics Valley Road, North East, Maryland 21901.
