Jane S. Schlegel

Jane Sheppard Seipt Schlegel, 90 years, of North East, MD, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 28, 1921 to the late Jennie Sheppard Orr Seipt and Howard Anders Seipt, she lived in Cecil County for 50 years. In her youth, Mrs. Schlegel bicycled solo throughout New England and Nova Scotia. Mrs. Schlegel married the late William Howard Schlegel on May 14, 1953. She had a life-long love of the ocean and water, so much so that in her later years, Mrs. Schlegel could be found swimming laps daily at the YMCA of Cecil County, Inc. in Elkton MD, stopping when she was in her late 80's. She worked as a bookkeeper for Benjamin¹s Lumber Co. and was a member of the North East United Methodist Church in North East. Mrs. Schlegel is survived by William F. Schlegel, Fort Worth, TX; Howard J. Schlegel & Phyliss Schlegel, Woodbine, NJ; Eric M. Schlegel & Lisa Schlegel, San Antonio, TX; David A. Schlegel, Elkton, MD, Christopher J. Schlegel & Janet Mason, Decatur, GA; Jane S. Schlegel, Street MD; 3 granddaughters and 1 great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 1:00 PM. The Reverend Bert Jicha of North East United Methodist Church, North East, will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA 18073. Mrs. Schlegel's father and mother were members. Or to the Sea Isle City Historical Society, P.O. Box 443, Sea Isle City, NJ 08243, where Mrs. Schlegel spent much of her youth, swimming in the surf. Mrs. Schlegel once said, Someday, after I'm gone, you'll look up at a puffy white cloud in the sky and I'll be dangling my feet over the edge.
