James Clarence Thompson, 78 of Rising Sun, MD, died Friday, March 4, 2011 in the Southern Chester County Hospital, Jennersville, PA. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on April 25, 1932, he was the son of the late James and the late Clara Mary Eitel Thompson. Mr. Thompson was the beloved husband of Diane D. Thompson of Rising Sun, MD. Jim served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Ridley Twp High School, Delaware County, PA and of Drexel University where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. He worked for DuPont for over 38 years, receiving many awards for excellence. While there, he was a member of many Committees and Task Teams, including API and ASME. Jim was a faithful member of St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, North East, MD. He served on the Vestry, Missions, Finance and Fund Raising Committees. He was also a former Lions Club member. A loving father, uncle, brother, cousin, husband and friend, he enjoyed sports, boating, gardening and spending time with family and friends In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his children: James C. Thompson, Jr. of Elkton, MD, Claire E. Gregor of Elkton, MD and Jeffrey M. Thompson of Church Hill, MD; his stepchildren: James T. Smith of West Chester, PA, John Joseph Smith of CO and Jeffrey David Smith of West Chester, PA; a brother: Jon Thompson of Holmes, PA; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by 2 grandsons: Jeffrey Mitchell Thompson, Jr. and Jack Lee Smith. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral services, conducted by Father Samuel Hartman will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church or to the Children's Home Foundation, both in care of Crouch Funeral Home.
