James B. Carroll 1/31/42 – 3/28/11 "BENNY" "A Very Proud Veteran" Benny died peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, DE. Born in Elkton, MD, on January 31, 1942, he was the son of the late Clyde and the late Jennie Carroll. He was the husband of Phyllis Lee Long Carroll with whom he shared 37 years of marriage. He served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the State of Delaware retiring in 2006. He also retired in 2002 from the Delaware Air National Guard. Benny enjoyed being a lifetime member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, the VFW Post 8175 and the American Legion Post 15 where he served 8 years as commander and was currently serving as Sergeant at Arms. He was a volunteer at Perry Point VA Medical Center and was currently serving on the Dept. of VAVS Committee there. He was a past commander of the Cecil County Legion Association and currently serving as treasurer; member of the Dept. Executive Committee American Legion; member of the 40 et 8 Voiture 1371 North Eastern Shore and had served as Chef de Gor and a member of DAV. Some of his favorite activities included playing cards with friends and going to ALL his grandsons' sporting events. He also enjoyed all the years attending Legion affairs and conventions with friends. In addition to his loving wife, Benny is survived by his stepson: Tom Quinn and his wife, Lisa, along with his 3 grandsons, Justin, Michael and Caleb; his brother Bill Carroll and his wife, Vanita; a daughter, Dawn, from his first marriage; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Clyde "Buddy" Carroll and his sister Charlotte Cloud. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Karen Bunnell will be held Friday, April 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 East Main Street, Elkton, MD. Interment with full military honors will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the American Legion Post 15 for "The Benny Carroll Scholarship Fund" in care of Crouch Funeral Home.
