James Garfield Brinkman

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on October 5, 1946, James was the son of the late John A. Brinkman, Sr. and Ellen Mae (Rineer) Brinkman.

Known to his family and friends simply as James was a hardworking, dependable man who spent many years working in maintenance. He believed in the dignity of honest work and quietly demonstrated this belief every day through his dedication, reliability, and willingness to help others.

While he took pride in the work he did, his greatest pride was always his family. James was a man of simple pleasures and a generous heart. He loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting, where he found peace and happiness. Gifted with his hands, he enjoyed woodworking and took great satisfaction in creating things that would last. One of the most treasured gifts he ever made was a beautiful wooden toy chest for his daughter, a lasting symbol of his love, care, and desire to give them something made not just with his hands, but with his heart.

Like many fathers, James took meticulous care of his car and his cherished collection of tools. But those who knew him best understood that he never measured life by the things he owned. He measured it by the moments he shared with the people he loved. Whether spending time with his daughter, sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or making memories with his beloved granddaughter, Xio, those were the moments that brought him the greatest joy.

Above all else, James was a devoted father and proud grandfather. He is survived by his loving daughter, Vanessa Lopez of Lititz, Pennsylvania; his son, Daniel Brinkman; his cherished granddaughter, Xiomara D. Lopez, who brought endless happiness to his life; his brother, Richard Brinkman; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert C. Brinkman and John A. Brinkman, Jr.; and his sisters, Elva Mae Mowrer, Margaret A. Brinkman, Barbara Ann Wagner, and Joanne Marie Stauffer.

Although James lived a quiet and humble life, the love he gave so freely will continue to echo through the lives of those he leaves behind. His gentle spirit, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to his family will be remembered always. While his family will deeply miss hearing his voice, seeing his smile, and sharing time with him, they find comfort in knowing that love like his never truly fades. It lives on in every cherished memory, every lesson he taught, and every moment spent together.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland. A memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
