Ivy Frances Cantler, age 91, resident of North East, MD for 70 years, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 following a brief illness.

Born in Yately, England on April 4, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elisabeth Hudson.  She was a Veteran of World War II where she served in the Royal British Navy.  While in the service, she met and married her late husband of 59 years, Roy E. Cantler.  At the conclusion of the war, she relocated to the United States and became a United States Citizen.

She worked for Cecil County Public Schools Food Services, retiring in June, 1988.  For years, she was an avid gardener, growing bushels of tomatoes and a variety of vegetables, that she and her husband enjoyed sharing with family and friends.  She enjoyed boating, fishing, working in her yard and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Cantler is survived by her son: Roy A. and wife, Chris Cantler, Perryville, MD; one granddaughter: Kimberly Jenkins, Rising Sun, MD; four great grandsons: Austin, James, Thomas, Andrew; and one great granddaughter: Emma.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Cantler was preceded in death by her brothers: Bill and Tom Hudson; and sister: Kathleen Sheehy.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and nurse’s aides of Elkton Transitional Care Center and Amedisys Hospice.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where the family will receive guests on Friday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery.
