Hubert C. Mentz

Hubert C. Mentz, 85 of Elkton, MD, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD. Born in Callahan, VA, on March 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and the late Sallie Kelley Mentz. Mr. Mentz was the husband of 60 years of Geneva D. Mentz of Elkton, MD. He served in the Army during World War II. He retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground after 35 years of service in 1980 as an Auto Mechanic. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed working. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his children: Linda K. McGlothlin and her fiance Edward Thornton of Lincoln University, PA; Mary Ellen Harris and her husband Larry of North East, MD; James C. Mentz and his wife Kathy of Elkhart, IN; and Hubert C. Mentz, Jr. and his wife Kate of Perryville, MD; two sisters: Dorothy McVey of Pemberton, WV; Linda Mentz of Ocoee, FL; one brother: Darrell Mentz of Ocoee, FL; and 8 grandchildren: Steven and Jessica McGlothlin; Christopher and Cara Harris; Stefan Plenus; Jennifer, Tori and Patrick Mentz. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may visit Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Rev. Hubert H. Jicha, III will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be in Elkton Cemetery, Elkton, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Calvert Manor Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o Crouch Funeral Home.
