Howard Herbert Lewis

Howard Herbert Lewis, 87 of Elkton, MD, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the Union Hospital Elkton, MD. Born in Washington County, VA, on January 13, 1924, he was the son of the late Jacob and the late Myrtle Elizabeth Osborne Lewis. He honorable served in the U. S. Army during World War II, from February 9, 1943 to January13, 1945. During his time in the army, he was stationed in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Howard received the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with Arrowhead. Mr. Lewis was a Charter member of the Ward's Hill Baptist Church, Cecilton, MD and V.F.W. Post 8175, Elkton, MD. Before his retirement he was a Machine Operator, employed by Electric Hose, Wilmington, DE for 23 years. Survivors include 5 daughters: Jane Thomas of Elkton, MD, Wilma Lee Bohemer of Bear, DE, Ella Mae Daly of Elkton, MD, Betty Ann Owens of Elkton, MD, Donna Sampson of Earleville, MD and 1 son: Howard H. Lewis, Jr. of Elkton, MD; 4 brothers: James Lewis of Milton, of FL, John H. Lewis of Elkton, MD, Ralph Lewis of Bristol, TN, Willis Lewis of MI. Mr. Lewis is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife, Viola Julie Lewis; son, James Lester Lewis; brother, Harold Lewis and sister, Susie Lewis. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bill Harris, will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD where there will be a viewing one hour before the service. Interment with full military honors will be in Union Cemetery, Elkton, MD. Memorials to the Union Hospital Adult Day Care or Wards Hill Baptist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
