Horace B. Stike

Horace B Stike, 89 of Rising Sun, MD, died Monday, February 22, 2010 in the Perry Point VA MD Healthcare System, Perry Point, MD. Born in Lansing, NC, on May 22, 1920, he was the son of the late Robert and the late Bertha Howell Stike, one of 8 children. He served during World War II in the Army after leaving the Civilian Conservation Corp. He retired as the General Foreman of the Transportation Dept. at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Port Deposit, MD until its closing in 1976, having worked 34 years for the Department of the Navy. Mr. Stike was a member of Conowingo Baptist Church. He was a life-long numismatist coin collector. He enjoyed playing sports in his youth. He liked working in his yard, especially with his blackberry bushes, and picking strawberries and peaches. Survivors include his son: Mark B Stike and his wife Terrie Stike of Elkton, MD; his grandchildren: Dr. Aaron B. Stike and his wife Dr. Reagan Stike of Richmond, VA; Joshua M Stike and his wife Ginger Stike of Conowingo, MD; Katie L.E. Stike of Elkton, MD; and a great-granddaughter, Stella Rowan Stike of Conowingo, MD. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Irene Stike in 2009. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening, Feb. 26, 2010 at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Bryant Wooten will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Conowingo Baptist Church, 151 Rock Springs Road, Conowingo, MD with additional viewing time beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment with full military honors will follow in Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to American Legion Post #194 Honor Guard, 338 East Main Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
