Hershel C. Armour, 73 of Charlestown, MD, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in North East, MD, on February 15, 1938, he was the son of the late William C. Armour and the late Edna Edwards Armour Moore. Mr. Armour served his country admirably in the Marines. He retired from G.M. after 30 years of service. He attended St. John's United Methodist Church, Charlestown. A life member of Charlestown Vol. Fire Co. with over 50 dedicated years of service, he served in many offices and capacities including Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Asst. Chief, President and Chief; on numerous committees and fundraisers and as a Delegate to M.S.F.A. Convention and the Harford/Cecil Firemen Association. He was inducted in the Harford/Cecil Hall of Fame and the MD State Fireman's Association Hall of Fame. He was also a lifetime member of the MD Fire Chief Association. From 1990-97 he served as a Family Escort for the Fallen Firefighter Memorial at the National Fire Academy. In 1994 and 1996 he fought wildfires in the states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Survivors include his loving wife: Rosalyn Bott of Charlestown, MD; his children: Daniel C. Armour of Elkton, MD, Gary R. Bott of Charlestown, MD, Sharon D. Armour of Principio, MD and Gary H. Armour and his wife Barbara of Elkton, MD; a brother: Clayton Ray Armour of North East, MD; his grandchildren: Matthew H. Armour, Taylor R. Bott and Addison M. Bott. He was preceded in death by a son, Lyle W. Bott, Jr. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mary Browne will be held Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday evening from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Interment will follow services in Ebenezer Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD. Those who wish to send flowers may. The family requests all memorial donations to Charlestown Volunteer Fire Dept., in care of the funeral home.
