Helen Lorraine Widdoes, 83 of Elkton, MD, died Thursday, December 25, 2008 in Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD. Born in Chelyan, WV, on April 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Ruby Irvin Davis. She moved to Elkton to be employed at Triumph Explosives and then the Bainbridge Naval Training Center. Helen subsequently went to work for Elkton Trucking Co. then was the terminal manager at Davidson Transfer. In 1984 she formed and became an Owner/Operator of Elk Lanes in Elkton. Helen was a Hall of Fame member of both the Baltimore Women's Bowling Association and the Cecil-Harford Bowling Association. She was a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress and had participated in 30 National Tournaments. Helen was a lifelong advocate of youth bowling and was a certified coach for over 40 years. In her "spare" time Helen enjoyed cooking no one left Helen's house hungry, playing cards, reading, and spending time with her many loving friends and family. Helen supported numerous charitable organizations and certainly worried more about others than herself. She was an active life member of the Singerly Fire Co. Ladies Auxillary. Survivors include her two sons: Charles C. Widdoes, Gerald K. Widdoes and his wife Julie all of Elkton, MD,; two grandchildren: Carson Blake Widdoes of Hayes, VA, Ashley Nicole Widdoes of Elkton, MD; her siblings: Bette O'Dell-Barr of Treasure Island, FL, Lois Hager of St. Albans, WV, Doris McDaniel of Charlestown, MD, Juanita Barnett of Live Oak, FL, William L. Davis Charles "Ray" Davis, James C. Davis, and her special brother-in-law, Walter G. Haysley all of Shepherdsville, KY and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by 4 siblings: Fred Davis, Peggy Barker, Bob Davis and Sue Haysley. A Memorial Service will be held at Singerly Fire Company, 300 Newark Ave., Elkton, MD. in the near future. Additional details will be forthcoming. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Elk Lanes U.S.B.C. Youth Bowling Program c/o Elk Lanes 406 Bow Street in Elkton, MD 21921.
