Hayes R. Hammer

Hayes R. Hammer, 79 of North East, MD, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 in the Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, Baltimore, MD surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Elkton on April 3, 1939, the son of the late Oscar and Eva Janice (Brown) Hammer.

Prior to his retirement, he was a union carpenter.

Hayes enjoyed fishing, hunting, horses, playing pool, outdoors, and riding in his truck.  He especially enjoyed and loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife: Cheryl Diane Hammer; 3 daughters: Rebecca Lathem (Richard) of Newark, DE, Barbara Perry (Mark) of Rising Sun, MD and Eva D. Hammer of North East, MD, and 2 sons: Richard Brett Hammer (Stacy) of Port Deposit, MD and Matthew Bart Hammer Cara) of Rising Sun, MD; his sisters: Mildred “Millie” Holdway, Peggy Sprecher, Patricia Wilson, Sandra Ritter and Carol Vaartjes; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: June Benjamin.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 5:00 pm until service.
