It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Romie Jones, of Elkton, MD, who left this world on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 83. Romie was born on May 19, 1942, in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late Harold Medford Jones and Ruth Virginia Jones.
A dedicated family man, Romie is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mildred D. (Burton) Jones; his son H. Douglas Jones (Stacey) of Sicklerville, NJ; his daughter Deanna Barnhart (Ron) of Medina, OH; and his three grandchildren, Zane Barnhart, Ryan Jones, and Madison Jones. Romie is also survived by his sisters, Charlotte Loller (Jack) and Shirley Jones both of Earleville, MD.
Romie proudly served as a Sergeant in the Delaware Air National Guard for six years, including active duty during the Riots of 1968. His commitment to service extended well beyond his military career; he enjoyed a remarkable 42-year tenure in retail sales management, before embarking on a fulfilling second career at Cecil Bank from which he retired after 20 years.
An integral part of his community, Romie was a longtime active member of Elkton United Methodist Church, Elkton, MD where he contributed his time and talent to various committees. He was also a proud 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #48 in Elkton, forging lasting bonds with his fellow members. Romie's passion for sports was evident throughout his life, as he remained a fervent Yankees fan since childhood and cherished the time spent coaching his son's Little League team.
Graveside services for Harold Romie Jones will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11:00 am, at West Nottingham Cemetery, Colora, MD, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his remarkable life.
Romie's legacy of love and commitment will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Elkton United Methodist Church or The American Cancer Society, in memory of H. Romie Jones. Donations may be sent to Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
