Harold E. Demond

Harold E. Demond
A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Zion on October 22, 1941, the son of the late George R. and the late Grace (Bothell) DeMond. He was the beloved husband of 50 years of Diana (Smith) DeMond.
He owned and operated Harold’s Restaurant in North East, MD for 18 years before retiring. Prior to that, Harold worked as an electrician in the General Services Department of E.I. DuPont Company for 18 years.
He was a life-long member of Zion United Methodist Church and attended worship at North East United Methodist Church. Harold sang with the Uppershoremen Gospel Quartet and was a founding member of the Cecil County Chapter of Barbershop Singers. Harold was past president of Cecil County Junior Football League. He also managed and coached for the North East Little League; and in 1996 had the privilege of coaching the Senior Boys team that was managed by his son and won the State Championship.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, playing cards and gardening; but the thing he loved the most was spending time with and watching his family grow. He had many hours of pleasure with his Jack Russell terriers, Rocky, Molly and Roscoe.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include 3 children: V. Andrew DeMond and his wife Sherri, Cynthia Lynn DeMond, and Eric B. DeMond and his wife Jennifer all of Elkton, MD; 2 sisters: Winnie Newnam of Galena, MD, Doris England of Rising Sun, MD; 7 grandchildren: Randall Stevens and his wife Nikki, Ashlie Burkhardt and her husband Bob, Kerry DeMond, Bret DeMond, Whitney Smith, Lucas DeMond and Avery DeMond; and 3 great grandchildren: Calia Stevens, Finn Burkhardt and Bryson Youngblood.
In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and George, and a sister, Marilyn DeMond Waddell.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Hal E. Owens and Rev. Bert Jicha, will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday, beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.
Interment will follow services in Friends Cemetery, Calvert.
