Gordon Ross Seymour Smith, 89, of Elkton, MD, died Sunday July 7, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New York City, NY, on April 30, 1924, he was the son of the late W. Seymour Smith and the late Adelaide Ross Smith.
An alumnus of Williams College, he studied chemical engineering at Columbia University, attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. He spent 27 years at the Johns-Manville Corporation in New York City and Denver, CO, specializing in industrial filtration. In 1991, he retired from W.L. Gore & Associates, Elkton, MD. he specialized in liquid filtration.
He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Rotary Club of North East; Member Emeritus of the American Chemical Society; a member of the American Filtration Society and the American Society of Chemical Engineers.
A member of St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church, North East, MD, he served as worship leader and choir member.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years: Carol W. Smith of Elkton, MD; 2 children: Pamela Seymour Smith Sharp of Brooklyn, NY, and Scott Ross Seymour Smith of Cornish, NH; 2 sisters: Alison S. Hannan of Brattleboro, VT, and Noel Smith Fernandez of Pomona, NY; and 2 granddaughters: Elizabeth Seymour Smith and Erika Gove Smith both of Cornish, NH.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM.
