Gladys Adele Smith Collins, 87 of North East, MD, died peacefully at her home, Wednesday, February 13, 2008 with her children by her side. Born in Blue Ball, MD, on September 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and the late Carrie DeMond Smith. She was the wife of the late Kellis Byron Collins, Sr. who died in June 1980. Mrs. Collins enjoyed sewing, poetry, knitting, cooking and gardening. She was a great animal lover and supporter. She worked as a Sales Clerk at Bay Boats. Survivors include her children: Kellis Byron Collins, Jr. of Charlestown, MD; Delbert Collins and his wife Barbara of North East, MD; Harold Butch Collins and his companion Vickie of Elkton, MD; Juanita Suppa of Charlestown, MD; Rodney D. Collins and his companion Theresa of Charlestown, MD; Rebecca Burton of North East, MD; and Emily L. Vuotto and her husband John of Collegeville, PA; one sister: Nevada Shea and her husband Harold of North East, MD; 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters: Violet Curry, Lorraine Ott, and Leona Simpkins. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may call from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM. Delbert Collins, her son, will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Bank Cemetery, Calvert, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to: Friends of Animals, c/o the Funeral Home.
