Gerrit Hopman, born on April 5, 1933, in Holland, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Elkton, Maryland. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend whose life was marked by steadfast dedication to his family, faith, and community. Gerrit retired from Chrysler, where he served with skill and integrity as an electrician, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.A man of deep faith, Gerrit’s proudest accomplishment was his active involvement with the First Baptist Church of North East, where he found spiritual fulfillment and built lasting connections. His devotion to the church reflected his character and the values he upheld throughout his life.Gerrit was born in Holland and emigrated to the United States, where he made a home and a life full of meaningful relationships. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the late Jane Hopman, and his brothers, the late Warren Hopman and the late Willie Hopman. The memories of their companionship and love remain a treasured part of his story.He is survived by his sons Arthur Hopman (Rebecca), Gerry Hopman (Linda), David Hopman (Lori), Donald Hopman (Kimberly), and Ken Hopman (Angel), along with his daughter Lora Beaudett (Park). Gerrit’s family also includes his brothers Herman Hopman (Allene) and Arie Hopman, and his sister Anneke Rutten. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, with 1 great-grandson on the way. These dear family members carry forward Gerrit’s spirit, values, and love, providing strength and continuity to his enduring legacy.A funeral service honoring Gerrit’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Crouch Funeral Home, located at 127 S Main St, North East, Maryland, 21901. A viewing will be from 12:00 pm until service time. This gathering will offer all who knew Gerrit the opportunity to celebrate his life, share cherished memories, and find comfort in one another’s presence.Gerrit Hopman’s life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and familial devotion. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his contributions to his family and community will be remembered with the deepest respect and affection.
