Georgieann Simmers, 68, passed away at home surrounded by her family, cats, and Christmas music. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to many, who will miss her dearly.
Georgieann was raised in Harrisburg, Pa, where her sister Eileen and her husband, Charley Miller, still reside. She moved to MD in 1961 to work at Bainbridge Naval Training Center. Later she worked as a secretary for St. Frances de Sales, then for Freestate Challenge Academy, for disadvantaged youth, at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
She loved her family, friends, dogs, and cats. She loved music and frequently attended concerts when she was younger. Baking cakes was one of her strong points, as was growing flowers, and bird watching.
As a member of North East Lions Club she volunteered to help out in most functions for the community. As a member of Northern Bay MSSA she baked a cake or pie every month for the monthly meeting. Although she did not fish, she did read on the boat and tell her husband which lure to use.
She was predeceased by both her parents, George and Mary Gotesch. She leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Ken Simmers; her children, Ken Jr. and his wife Linda, of Port Deposit; Cristina Simmers, of Phoenix, AZ; her grandson Luke Vicari and his wife Jessica, of Cecilton.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at Glorious Presence Church on Thursday at 7:30pm. The location is 1552 Singerly Rd., Elkton, MD 21921.
Donations may be made in her name to: Amedisys Hospice, 107 Chesapeake Blvd., Elkton, MD 21921.
