George V. Travers, Sr., 79 of North East, MD, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. Born in Aberdeen, MD, on August 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Harold V. and the late Sara E. Armour Travers. He was the husband of the late Helen V. "Patsy" Travers and his second wife the late Elizabeth Luiguz. George served in the Air Force. He retired from Chrysler where he worked as a Parts Expeditor and Union Steward. He attended the First Baptist Church of North East; was a member of the Lions Club of North East and was active in Democratic Politics. He enjoyed Orioles Baseball and worked with the Cal Ripken Fan Club in its early years. Survivors include: a daughter: Sharon Griffith of Seminole, FL, son, George V. Travers and his wife Cathy of Greensboro, MD, and son with whom he lived, Greg Walker and his wife Danita of North East, MD; his grandchildren who were the light of his life: Sharon Lee Hamilton and her husband Glenn of Clearwater, FL, Bethany Testerman and her husband Randy of Elkton, MD, Nicole Pearce and her husband Len of Greensboro, MD, Alesha Walker of North East, MD, Amy Short and her husband Devin of Elkton, MD, AmberLee Walker of Elkton, MD, Alexandria Walker of Elkton, MD and Richard Wharton of FL; 10 great grandchildren who provided the most joy; his caregiver: Derrick Herzberg and his little buddy, Robert; his siblings: Ralph, Mike and Wesley Travers and Emma Jane Cullum. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ginny Travers; 2 sisters: Ann and Ruth; and 2 brothers: Lee and Kenny. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Hokuf will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to Union Hospital Adult Day Care, in care of the funeral home.
