George H. Stroup

George H. Stroup, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 80 of Havre de Grace, Maryland, formerly of Wytheville, Virginia, and a former resident of North East, for 35 years, moving to Maryland in 1954, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2004, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Born in Wytheville, Virginia, on March 13, 1923, he was a son of the late Richard Stroup and Sara Jane Wright Stroup. He retired in 1985, after 30 years of loyal service at Harbison-Walker, North East, Maryland, where he was a long standing member and an active union representative of the United Steelworkers Union Local 1400. He was also an active member of the Bargaining and Grievance Committee. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his 3 beloved grandsons. He was an avid reader who enjoyed reading and studying the bible and gardening. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii during World War II. Mr. Stroup is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geraldine C. Stroup, Havre de Grace, Maryland, 2 daughters, Tina R. Yates, and her husband, Tim, Elkton, Maryland, and Linda S. Fuller, and her husband, Lee, Port Deposit, Maryland, 3 grandsons; Joshua D. Yates, Evan M. Yates, and Christopher J. Fuller, siblings, Lucille Bonham, North East, Maryland, Elsie Stroup, Wytheville, Virginia, and Anna Mae Sawyer, Cambridge, Maryland. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stroup was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, James R. Stroup, Richard Mackie Stroup, and Lewis Stroup, and a sister, Ruby Moore. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland. Family and friends are invited to visit at 1:30 PM, prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, Maryland. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 1840 York Road, Suite M, Timonium, Maryland 21093.
