G. Robert Carr, 88, of North East, MD died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 following a brief illness. Born in Chester, PA on June 22, 1919, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Edith Duling Carr. G. Robert and his loving wife, Ida Mae celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on December 29, 2008. They lived in West Chester, PA for 34 years before retiring to Hances Point, North East, MD, in 1986. Mr. Carr served during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 110th Infantry, US Army, and fought for two years in the European theatre. He worked in the milk transportation industry his entire career beginning in the family-owned business, Robert H. Carr & Sons, and later founding his own businesses, Carr Liquid Transport in Frazer, PA and Milk Tank Lines, Espy, PA. He was a member of Elkton Presbyterian Church, the North East Investment Club, the North East River Yacht Club, Delaware River Power Squadron and Ducks Unlimited. He was past president and founding member of the Frazer Lions Club in Frazer, PA and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Downingtown, PA. Mr. Carr was an avid boater and big game hunter. With other members of the Frazer Lions Club he founded, organized and supported the Wild Game Dinners, a major fund-raising program in Chester County, PA. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Carr is survived by daughter Bonnie C. Long and her husband, Gerald of Paoli, PA; son, G. Robert Carr, Jr. and his wife Susan Jane of Pleasantville, NJ; two granddaughters, Emily Jean Carr and Sarah Tomasina Carr, both of Pleasantville, NJ; and three brothers, Raymond H. Carr, Chester Springs, PA; Dr. Charles L. Carr, Largo FL and Norman L. Carr, Chester Springs, PA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Saturday morning starting one hour before the funeral services. Reverend Laurel Loveless will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in the North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. Memorial donations may be made to The Glaucoma Service Foundation to Prevent Blindness or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
