Frances Williams Thompson was born in Norfolk, VA on March 25, 1939. The daughter of Samuel Williams and Carlotta Costa Williams, Frances spent most of her life as a resident of Charlestown. Mom-mom, as Frances was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was known to many in Charlestown through her affiliation with the Charlestown Methodist Church and as a local school bus driver. Frances was known to those who loved her as an outstanding cook. Her love for food preparation flourished in the mid 1980s, when she and her husband bought and operated the Bay Country Store Bakery and Sandwich Shop on Main Street in Elkton. They spent ten years happily serving lunch to many of Elkton's downtown businesses and became friends with many of the familiar faces who returned daily for lunch and topical conversation. Upon retiring, Frances became active in Cecil County's Hospice program where she worked to provide care, company, and companionship to those in need. Frances' love of life, her willingness to help those in need and her abilities to turn her kitchen into a place comparable to the finest gourmet restaurants are the attributes for which she will be missed the most. Mom-mom's passing was preceded by that of her husband, Andrew Reds Thompson, her son, Danny Lewis, and her brother Elino "Uncle Junior" Calbalda. She is survived by her sisters Gloria Madden of Canby, Oregon as well as Ruby Jean Schwartz and Linda Boudreaux both of Louisiana. She is also survived by her children Gloria Starling and her husband Malcolm of Charlestown, Shirley Dean and her husband Gary of North East, and Sammy Lewis and his partner Lori Macis of Elkton as well as six grandchildren, Chris, B.J., Corey, Erica, Brittany and Austin and five great-grandchildren, Liv, Julia, Greyson, Nathan and Madalyn. Memorial services for Frances will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 1:00 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church in Charlestown, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow in Charlestown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Frances' name to St. John's United Methodist Church, Charlestown, MD.
