Eugene L. Meekins

Eugene L. Meekins, 79 of Elkton, MD, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD. Born in North East, MD, on August 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Harry A. and the late Albertha May Hines Meekins. He retired from Perry Point V.A. Medical Center with over 40 years service where he worked in Public Health. Mr. Meekins was a avid hunter and fisherman, who loved baseball, soccer, and NASCAR. He especially loved his grandchildren. A member 60 year member of the North East Fire Co., he also was a member of the Elkton Moose Lodge 851, where he held the highest degree and also was a pilgrim. He served in the Maryland Army National Guard for 15 years. Gene was a member of the 29th Division Association, American Legion Post 194 Rising Sun, MD and a member of V.F.W. Post 6027 North East, MD. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret Marie Meekins who died in 1999. Survived by four daughters: Deborah Kurtz of Charlestown, MD, Cynthia Helsel and her Husband Robert of North East, MD, Vicky Arrowood and her Husband Daryl of Oxford, PA, Michelle Osborne and her Husband Matt of North East, MD and three sons: Larry Meekins and his wife, Gwen of Elkton, MD, Phillip Meekins and his wife, Robin of Elkton, MD, and Richard Meekins and his wife, Kelly of North East, MD. His sister, Albertha Smythe of North East, MD late Daughter, Abigail Meekins; late brothers, Harry and Abby Meekins; late sisters, Faye Sawyer and Ginny Galimore; late best friend, Eddie Watson. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Of North East, 206 Mechanics Valley Road, North East, MD. where there will be a viewing on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Rev. Dr. Steven Hokuf and Deacon Phillip Meekins will officiate. Interment in North East Methodist Cemetery. For condolences visit www.crouchfuneralhome.com
