Ernest Belcher, 81 of North East, MD, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Passaic, NJ, on October 30, 1930, he was the son of the late John and the late Alma Belcher. Mr. Belcher was the beloved husband of 55 years of Emma E. (Eck) Belcher.
He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. Before his retirement, he worked in bridge construction. After his retirement, Mr. Belcher worked for many years as a security guard at the Elkton Courthouse.
He was a life member of both VFW Post 6027 of North East and VFW Post 8175 of Elkton. He had a passion for gardening, loved fishing and hunting. He was crazy about decorating for Christmas with lots of lights. He enjoyed family picnics and barbeques, making the “world’s best crab soup”. Most of all he loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include: his children: Ernest Belcher, Jr. of North East, MD, John Belcher and his wife Brenda of Cary, NC, Donald Belcher and his wife Kim of North East, MD, Pamela Serra and her husband Philippe of Colora, MD, Helen Reil and her husband Frederick of Perryville, MD and Mary Esposito and her husband Frank of Rising Sun, MD; 21 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and his siblings: Lindberg Belcher of Tunkhannock, PA, Richard Belcher of Monroeton, PA, Mary Jane Root of Jacksonville, FL, Johnny Belcher of Meshoppen, PA, Shirley Drake of Unionville, NY, Billy Belcher of Falls, PA, Bertha Bedell of Nicholson, PA, Theresa Webb of Tunkhannock, PA, Carol Dyke of Dingmans Ferry, PA, Margaret Rude of Franklin, NJ and Leona Saxer of Laceyville, PA.
He was preceded in death by a son: Greg A. Belcher, Sr.; 2 brothers: Freeman Belcher and Donald Belcher; and 1 sister: Alma Sudek.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Harold Phillips will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again beginning at 11:00 AM Saturday until service time.
Interment will follow services in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seasons Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
