Emmett U. Letts, Sr. 86, of North East, MD, passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 in his home. Born in North East, MD on February 27, 1920 he was the son of the late William and Helen Demond Letts. He was an Engineer employed by Amtrak where he retired in 1982. He began his railroad career at an early age as a trackman for the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1941 he worked on Coal Fired Steam Engines as a Fireman in the Engine Service and in 1945 he was promoted to Engineer. In his earlier years Mr. Letts enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing odd jobs with his dump truck and tractor. He loved family gatherings, enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friends and railroad buddies and most would say he was a great storyteller. In addition to his parents, Emmett is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Bertha Letts, his daughter Joyce Letts Lake, sisters; Roberta J. Grafton and Beatrice E. Simpson and brothers; Harry, David E. and Ralph T. Letts. Survived by three daughters: Diane Fritz of Port Deposit, MD Linda Foreaker of , North East, MD Patricia Jones of North East, MD two sons: Earl Letts of North East, MD Emmett Letts, Jr. of North East, MD Brothers: Harold E. Letts, Elkton, MD Albert B. Letts, Palm Harbor, FL Homard J. Letts, Mission, TX Sister: Colleen V. Gray, North East, MD Granddaughters: Aprile Harris, Jennifer Boas, Karen Davis, Kelli Stansfield, Autumn Letts Grandsons: Steven Jones, Richard Lake, Matthew Letts, Jason Letts, Michael Letts 10 Great-grandchildren Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD where friends and family may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 8, 2006.
