Emil Arthur Westerinen Senior, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away on Monday, November 27, 2006 in Wayne, NJ. He was a resident of North East and Elkton for many years before moving to Staten Island in 1968 and then to Little Falls, NJ this past June. He is survived by his wife Julia Jefferson Westerinen of Little Falls, NJ, his children and their spouses Jeff and Andrea Westerinen of Issaquah, WA, Dorothy Westerinen and MaryAnn Malzone of Staten Island, NY, Arthur Westerinen and Susan Smart of Montclair, NJ, Marshall Westerinen and Wilson Henao of New York, NY, his granddaughters Emily and Becky Westerinen and Stephanie and Samantha James, as well as his brother Elwood Westerinen of Fort Myers, FL. He was predeceased by his sisters Vieno "Blondie" Kennedy and Ellen Williams, both of North East, MD. Emil was born in the Perkensville section of North East Maryland on October 9, 1923 to Jennie Manty of Tomahawk, Wisconsin and Esa Westerinen of Terijoki, Finland. Emil was a sergeant in the Army in World War II, serving overseas in Burma, China and India as a radar technician. After the war he earned his Bachelors Degree at the University of Maryland and his Masters Degrees at the University of Delaware and also did post graduate work at Columbia University in New York City. He taught at Elkton High School and then became the Educational Advisor at the Chaplains School in Aberdeen Proving Grounds. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club of Elkton. He and the family moved to Staten Island New York in 1968 where he worked at Forts Hamilton and Wadsworth, finally retiring from Fort Monmouth in 1984. Services will be held at Harmon Funeral Home in Staten Island, NY on Friday, December 1st between 7 and 9:00 PM, and also at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD on Saturday, December 2nd at 3:00 PM. He loved to listen to that station and would be pleased to support them for all the enjoyment he gained through listening to them through the years.
