Ella Lena Helton

Ella Lena Helton, age 88, of North East, Maryland, passed away Friday, February 27, 2004, at her home in North East, Maryland. Born in Rogersville, Tennessee, on July 16, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John Carson Jeter and Elizabeth Cross Jeter. She was a resident of Cecil County for 25 years. Mrs. Helton was a homemaker. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church, and loved sewing, needlepoint, and gardening. She especially liked hand stitching flowers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Helton was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Helton, who died on April 3, 1985. Mrs. Helton is survived by her children, Goldie C. Hockett, and Tom J. Helton, both of Elkton, Maryland, Jimmy D. Helton, Huntsville, Alabama, Wanda L. Pritchard, Lois F. Rhoades, and Ronnie L. Helton, all of North East, Maryland, and Connie L. Newberry, Clintwood, Virginia; siblings, Henry Jeter, Hagerstown, Maryland, Herman Jeter, Lennon, Michigan; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 1, 2004, at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland, where friends and family may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Rev. Glenn Bromwell of Baptist Bible Church, Elkton, Maryland, will officiate. Interment will follow the services in North East United Methodist Cemetery, North East, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the North East Fire Company, c/o Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland 21901.
