Eli Seth Matthews

Eli Seth Matthews, 10, of Oxford, PA, died Thursday, January 20, 2011 in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. He was born in Newark, DE, on November 27, 2000 and was a student at Nottingham Elementary School, Oxford, PA. Eli enjoyed playing T-Ball and Little League in Oxford, PA, riding with his dad on his Harley, 4- wheelers and bikes, and enjoyed music. His favorite place was the beach. Eli's name is in the word 'bELIeve.' He believed in a cure for leukemia. Eli cared about and helped so many people and was known around the world. He was a hero in his hometown of Oxford, PA. Eli is survived by his loving parents, Paul B. and Ruth Ann Cliff Matthews and brother, Austin P. Matthews of Oxford, PA; his maternal grandmother: Norma Jean Cliff of North East, MD; and his paternal grandparents: Paul Matthews of Worthington, PA and Melody Sue Matthews of Pittsburgh, PA and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM at North East United Methodist Church, 308 South Main Street, North East, MD. Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Eli to: the newly established "Eli Seth Matthews Leukemia Foundation" c/o National Penn Bank, 2196 Baltimore Pike, Oxford, PA 19363 or the "Eli Matthews Cancer Fund" to assist the family with remaining medical expenses at the same address.
