Eleanor H. (Hammond) Lynch

Eleanor Hammond Lynch, 90 of North East, MD, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Marathon, NY, on May 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Willis D. and the late Ina M. Hammond.  She was the wife of the late Dr. Donald R. Lynch who died Nov. 30, 2000.

Eleanor graduated from Marathon High School as valedictorian and then worked for IBM in Syracuse, NY.  In 1944, she married Donald Lynch, a graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. They moved to Walkersville, MD in 1947 where they began their veterinary practice. In 1950, they established Glade Valley Animal Hospital near Frederick. Eleanor assisted her husband in many aspects of the practice until their retirement in 1986. They moved to North East, MD in 1996.

Eleanor loved music and served as church choir director and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with family. In recent years, Mrs. Lynch volunteered at Sandy Cove in North East, MD.

She is survived by her children: Peter Hammond Lynch of North East, MD,  Melissa J. Christensen of Baltimore, MD, William Patrick Lynch of Frederick, MD, Teri Jane Myers of Colorado Springs, CO, and Bethany Anne Green of North East, MD; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The homegoing service will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.

Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
