Edward Francis Gillespie, 79 of Elkton, MD, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 2, 2014 in the Citizens Nursing Center, Havre de Grace, MD.

Born in Upland, PA, on March 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward F. Gillespie, Sr. and the late Isabelle (Schoenfelt) Sorgini.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Bernard Gillespie of Nothingham, PA and Charles Creegan of Eddystone, PA.

He served in the U.S. Army and was in the Honor Guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church of Chesapeake City, MD.

Ed was a technician with IBM and Valens Business Machines.  He then pursued his passion and love for dogs, especially Dobermans. He was a Dog Obedience Judge with the American Kennel Club for over 30 years; taught obedience training; was chosen “Obedience Man of the Year” in 1974 by the PA Federation of Dog Clubs; served on the Show Committee for the 1984 AKC Centennial Dog Show and Obedience Trial; was Obedience Chairman for the Bryn Mawr Kennel Club for many years and was past president of the Quaker City Doberman Pinscher Club.   Ed also enjoyed photography watching the Eagles play football.

Survivors include his 3 children: Susan M. Martin of Aberdeen, MD, John E. Gillespie and his wife Barbara of North East, MD, and Michael J. Gillespie of Elkton, MD; his brother: Jack Creegan of Vineland, NJ; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 301 Locke Street, Chesapeake City, MD.

Interment with full military honors will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to: Ruff Life Rescue, P.O. Box 256, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
