Edna June (Goss) Brooks

Edna June Brooks, age 78, of Rising Sun, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 24, 2014.  She was born in Horse Creek, NC on August 25, 1936.  She was the daughter of the late Jim and Lucy Blackburn Goss.  She was the wife of the late John Arden Brooks.

June worked at Elkton Fashions as a seamstress and MD Transportation Authority as a toll collector.  June was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Rising Sun for 49 years.  June loved her family and will be dearly missed by all.

June was a loving mother to two sons: Larry Brooks and his wife, Louise, of Dawsonville, GA, John Brooks and his wife, Kathy, of North East; two daughters: Sandy Stafford and her husband, Wayne, of Elkton, Teresa Hocking and her husband, John, of Landenberg, PA; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  She was also survived by her sister: Helen May of Conowingo.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother: Bill Hurley.

As a tradition, the family gathered in her home for home-cooked meals every Friday evening for 35 years.  June enjoyed sewing and crocheting, making treasured gifts for all.  She enjoyed many hours at grandkid’s activities and sporting events.  June was always there when her children needed her.

The family is grateful for the support and care given by the staff at Singerly Manor Assisted Living and Amedysis Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 35 Sylmar Road, Rising Sun, MD, where friends and family may call two hours before the service.  Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
