Edie enjoyed 93 years. She wasted none of them. She was always working, learning, helping and giving. She was active with the North East Women’s Civic League and was their longest active member since the early 60’s. She greatly enjoyed hosting an annual fall theme party and luncheon for the Civic League. She was fortunate to have travelled to five continents along with her husband.
The Tome School was a big part of her life. Edie White Hostetter, class of ’40, was born, raised and lived her entire adult life within a 2 mile circle of Cecil Avenue in North East, MD. When it was her opportunity to help Tome, she simply moved Tome within her circle. She conceived the purchase of the Clark Farm in her forties. The Tome School rests on that farm today.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 11 from 400pm – 700pm at the Crouch Funeral Home on 127 South Main Street, North East MD. The funeral service will be held at The Tome School on 581 S. Maryland Ave., North East, MD 21901 on Friday, February 12 at 200pm. A reception at the Tome School will follow the internment at North East Methodist Cemetery.
