Dr. Dorothy A. Wyatt, 96, of Towson, Maryland, formerly of Elkton, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Born on October 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank Paul Albanese and Sara Jane Butler. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Dean Wyatt, as well as her brother, Thomas D. Albanese, and sisters, Jeanette Albanese and Pauline C. Mackie.
Dr. Wyatt dedicated her life to education as an elementary school teacher, administrator, and early childhood specialist. She retired from Baltimore County Public Schools, where she spent her career devoted to working with young children and fostering learning, creativity, and growth in the classroom.
Her documented education includes a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Administration from Maryland State Teachers College at Towson and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern University. She was a graduate of Elkton High School in Elkton, Maryland.
During her doctoral studies at Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Wyatt participated in the National Ed.D. Program for Educational Leaders, with a focus on Elementary Education and Early Childhood leadership. Her academic work emphasized instructional leadership, curriculum development for young learners, and public school administration. Her research was closely aligned with her professional role as an Elementary Education Specialist for the Baltimore County Public Schools in Towson, Maryland, and the principles she studied later influenced her work in children's literature.
Following her career in public education, Dr. Wyatt transitioned into writing. Her books focused on children's literature, inspired heavily by nature and animals. Her published titles include:
She often spoke fondly of her time living in a small home in the woods, where she enjoyed feeding visiting birds and the squirrels that lived nearby. In later years, she resided at Edenwald in Towson, where she remained active and engaged in community life until her passing.
Dr. Wyatt was known for her love of travel, her gentle spirit, and her appreciation for both nature and learning. She especially treasured shopping and going to lunch with her niece Patricia and deeply enjoyed spending time talking and sharing memories.
She is survived by her nephew, Robert T. Crouch, and his wife, Patricia, and great-nephew Coale Crouch.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Parkwood Cemetery, 3310 Taylor Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21234.
