Dorothy Pearl Smith, 86 of North East, MD, died Thursday, September 30, at her home. Born October 16, 1917 in Cross Keys, PA, the daughter of the late Harvey B and Catherine B Stiffler Miller. Mrs. Smith was a 1935 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Hollidaysburg, PA. Mrs. Smith enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed birds, flowers and especially her pet "Daisy". Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer "Smitty" Smith, who died October 7, 1974; daughter Joyce Smith; daughter-in-law Carol Smith and special family friend Richard Gonce. Also preceding her in death are the following brothers and sister; Harvey Miller, Milton Miller, Mary McCoy, Mabel Imler, Helen James, Kenneth Miller and Melvin Miller. Survivors include the following children: Jane Raber and her husband Tom, Dottie Forthman and her husband Richard, all of Belair, MD, George Smith, Judy Smith, Janet Gray and her husband Brian, all of North East, MD, Bill Smith and his wife Myrna of Aurora, CO, Joan Alexander and her husband Elmer of Tampa, Florida; two step-daughters, June Roesch of Altoona, PA, and Jean Raneir of Duncansville, PA, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Haffley and husband Dale of Erie, PA, Betty Pyle and husband Albert of Oxford, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday, October 5, 2004 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with the Rev. Sumner Jones of Shelemiah United Methodist Church, Bayview, MD officating a celebration of life. Burial will follow in Rose Bank Cemetery, Calvert, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northern Chesapeake Hospice, North East Volunteer Fire Department, or Shelemiah United Methodist Church.
