Dorothy P. Demond Witmer

Dorothy P. DeMond Witmer, age 89, passed away December 25, 2009 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Dorothy was born on November 16, 1920 and was a lifelong resident of North East, MD. Dorothy was highly regarded for her volunteerism and shared wonderful years with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary Anne's Church and the North East Women's Civic League where she held office. Dorothy assisted children in the North East Elementary School Mentor Program until a few years ago. She owned and operated a private kindergarten in North East for 25 years before she retired. She was preceded in death by E. Leon DeMond, Jr. and The Reverend Elmer H. Witmer. Dorothy is survived by her children: E. Leon DeMond, III and wife Patricia; J. Gregory DeMond and wife Marsha, both of North East; and Susan DeMond Shannon, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jon Michael DeMond, Amy Beth Feltman, Todd C. Shannon, and Scott D. Shannon; a step-granddaughter, Lisa H. Jones and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main Street, North East for family and friends. Services will be held at St. Mary Anne's Church, 315 S. Main Street, North East at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
