Doris Mae Short, age 79, of Perryville, Maryland, passed away on Friday May 8, 2026 at Christina Care Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland.

Born on December 16, 1946 in Amarillo, Texas. Doris was the beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Zell) Chambers.

Dedicated to the nursing profession as an LPN at Perry Point VA Hospital, Doris devoted her career to caring for others with compassion and professionalism. She loved playing Bingo and was an avid Bingo player on Wednesday evenings at the Singerly Fire Dept in Elkton. Her compassion went beyond her career as she was always willing to help others and put them before herself. She loved being around people and was grateful for what God blessed her with. Her heart was her family and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always loving to be around them with her favorite reminder “Mommom loves you”.

She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Short of Port Deposit, Maryland and her son, Clifton Short II and his wife, Anna Short of Havre de Grace, Maryland. Doris also leaves behind her sister, Joan McCardell of Perryville, Maryland, her brother, Abby Chambers of Amarillo, Texas and preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Her loving legacy continues through her grandchildren, Clifton Short III and Taneesha Strong as well as her great-grandchildren, Lillian and Maxton.

A Memorial Service will be held June 6, 2026 from 1-3 at American Legion Post 135, located at 300 Cherry St in Perryville.
