Donald Ross "Murph" Murphy, 76 of North East, MD, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD. Born in Charlestown, MD, on June 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Walter E. and the late Clara Pyle Murphy. Mr. Murphy was the beloved husband of Shirley J. Murphy of North East, MD. From 1956-62, he was a milkman for Mt. Ararat Farm, 1967-73 he owned and operated Murphy's Esso in North East, 1973-79 he worked for Abbott's and from 1983-1998 for the Cecil County Board of Education, at which time he retired. Mr. Murphy was a charter member of the Charlestown Fire Co. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Ravens football, baseball, his cats and sharing time with his family. He was especially proud of his ability to make people laugh. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, survivors include: his children: Christine A. Main of Elkton, MD, Jane H. Webb of North East, MD, Donna L. Murphy of Charlestown, MD, Kevin R. Murphy of Elkton, MD; one sister: Mildred Owens of Huntington, NY; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother: Walter "Bub" Murphy and a sister: Dorthea Hines. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Daniel T. Gedman will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Charlestown Cemetery, Charlestown, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Breast Health Center at Union Hospital of Cecil County, in care of the funeral home.
