David Eugene Gray

David Eugene Gray, a long time amateur ham radio operator, dedicated BPOE member, Cecil County RACES Officer and former volunteer Cecil County paramedic, died from complications of diabetes at the University of Maryland Medical Center on December 31, 2007. The Colora resident was 60. He was the son of the late John W. and the late Betty A. Deeter Gray of Havre de Grace. Known as Dave to most of his friends, Mr. Gray was born in Williamsport, PA and moved to Havre de Grace with his parents in 1960. He was a graduate of Havre de Grace High School and Harford Community College. Mr. Gray served with the Army National Guard and retired in 2002 from the VA Medical Center, Perry Point, as Electric Shop Supervisor. He was known for his extensive technical expertise and willingness to help others. During the course of his career, he also worked as a radar technician, a master electrician, a biomedical technician and was owner and operator of Cecil Communications, a two-way radio business in North East, MD in the 1980's. A member of BPOE #1564 Havre de Grace for 39 years, David served that organization in various offices and committees at the local Lodge and with the MD, DE and DC Elks Association. He married the former Patti Pierce in 1972 and the couple moved to their present home in Colora the following year. Patti Gray joined her husband in his active participation in ham radio, the Elks and volunteer emergency medical services. Mr. Gray's amateur radio call sign, K3UAV, was well known in local ham radio circles. He was always willing to share his vast technical knowledge and experience with anyone who needed it. Graveside services for family and close friends will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, January 4, 2008 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Colora, MD. A Memorial Service will be held 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Elks Lodge, 940 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Gray's wife asks that memorial donations be made to: Elks National Foundation, C/O Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
