Daniel 'Doc' Edward Dougherty, 86 of North East, MD, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, MD. Born in Stonehurst, PA, on November 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Daniel E. and the late Blanche Lloyd Dougherty. He served his country admirably in the US Navy 2 tours during World War II on the USS Mobile, from the time it was commissioned until the time it was decommissioned. Doc was a retired Fire Marshall for the State of Maryland; a retired Tower Operator for Penn Rail Road and a Firefighter for Bainbridge Naval Training Center. He was a member of VFW Post 6027, North East, MD, serving as Past Commander; Disabled American Veterans and the Atomic Veterans Association. He enjoyed working with veterans and volunteered at Perry Point VA Medical Center. Survivors include his children: Gloria McCool and her husband Ralph McCool II of Elkton, MD and Daniel E. Dougherty and his wife Lee of Winter Park, FL; 5 grandchildren: Rebecca A. Rothwell, Ralph W. McCool III, Joanna R. Harkins, Ryan C. McCool and Justin D. Dougherty. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 4:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 3:00 PM until service time. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Doc to Elkton Vet Center in care of the funeral home.
