Daniel P. Callahan

Daniel P. “Danny” Callahan, Sr., of Perryville, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Born on October 19, 1948, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Danny was the son of the late Thomas Neil Callahan and Emma Grace Mohr Callahan.

Danny was a hardworking, talented man who spent his career as a Bodyman, tool salesman and mechanic before retiring in 2010. Naturally gifted with his hands and blessed with a knack for figuring out how things worked, he took great pride in his work and believed in doing a job right.

Danny was a man of many interests and talents. An accomplished decoy carver and avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed goose hunting and fishing. He also had a lifelong passion for motorsports, spending many memorable years involved in motorcycle hill climbing, sprint car and drag racing with Callahan Racing and Collette Racing. Whether he was at the racetrack, enjoying a good game of Texas Hold’em, or gathered around a table playing cards with family and friends, Danny appreciated good company and a little friendly competition.

He also had a special place in his heart for the Boy Scouts. His involvement in Wood Badge leadership training reflected his appreciation for mentorship, fellowship, and sharing his knowledge and experience with others.

Those who knew Danny will undoubtedly remember his unmistakable way of offering advice. With his finger pointed and a familiar look of certainty, he would begin, “What you ought to do is…” What followed was usually a suggestion, a correction, or an opinion that Danny was quite certain was the right one, and most of the time it was. It was simply his way, and those familiar words, along with his personality and the countless conversations that followed them, will surely bring a smile to the faces of those who loved him.

Above all, Danny was a devoted family man. He shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Julia R. Callahan. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and memories made along the way. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, and the time spent with those closest to him was among life's greatest blessings.

Danny is lovingly survived by his wife, Julia R. Callahan; his children, Daniel P. Callahan, Jr. and his wife, Gretchen, and Kathleen C. Goodley and her husband, Stephen; his siblings, Kathleen Kellner, Patrick Callahan, and Grace Price; and his cherished grandchildren, Grace, Henry, and Collin. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his siblings, Tom Callahan, Ann Marble, Bob Callahan, and Suze Walls.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., both held at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland.

Danny leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, hard-earned wisdom, and treasured memories. He will be remembered for his skilled hands, his love of racing and the outdoors, his unmistakable personality, and the devotion he had for his family. Although his familiar advice may no longer be heard, those who knew him will surely find themselves smiling whenever they hear someone begin a sentence with, “What you ought to do is…”
