Clifford L. Penland

Clifford L. Penland, 94 of Elkton, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in McComas, WV, on November 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Obadiah and Celeia Penland.  He was the husband for 65 years to Margaret Ann (Fabinski) Penland who passed away September 16, 2016.

Clifford served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a typesetter for the Wilmington News Journal.  His favorite expression was “I was born tired”.

Survivors include his children: Patricia "Susie" Adkins (Steve) of Elkton, MD, Mildred Ward (Dar) of Charlestown, MD, Gary Penland (Lynn) of Bluefield, WV, Danny Penland (Samantha) of Bluefield, WV and Bobby Penland (Michelle) of Bear, DE; a sister: Thelma Mae Carbaugh of Bluefield, WV; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Clifford was also preceded by his son: Randy Penland.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.

Private interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
