Charles Edward Lockard, Sr.

Charles Edward Lockard, Sr., age 88 of Conowingo, MD, a lifelong resident of Cecil County, passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his home with family. He was born in Elk Neck, MD, on May 17, 1921, to the late William and the late Mary Pearce Lockard. Charlie retired from the Federal Government in 1973 after serving 30 years at Bainbridge Naval Training Center and Edgewood Arsenal. He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army, Company B, 337th Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After his retirement, Charlie loved to travel. He is survived by his children: Charles Lockard, Jr., Dorothy Dot Lockard, Robert, Lockard, Sr. all of Missouri, Barbara Verone and her husband Howard of Ridgecrest, CA; Carolyn Sue McCray Coppola of Rising Sun, MD, and Carol Vaccarini and her husband Jule of Conowingo, MD. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and his brothers, Amos and Auburn Lockard both of North East, MD. Charlie's family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Season's Hospice for their compassionate care of him. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mary Browne will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
