Carolyn "Kay" L. (Knapp) Vandervort

Carolyn L. Vandervort, 89 of Perryville, MD, passed away peacefully Monday, May 13, 2024.

Born in Cleveland, OH, on February 15, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Earl Ward Knapp and Evelyn Mae (Shedwick) Knapp.  She was the wife of the late William George Vandervort.

Carolyn (“Kay”) led a full and interesting life. Together with her husband and sons, they were the owner/operators of Vandervort Appliance repair. She was a 62 year member of St. John’s UM Church, Charlestown, MD where she had taught children’s Sunday school. She was a Private Pilot, enjoyed scuba diving, swimming, sewing, aerobic dancing. She loved Ballet, had been a ballerina and ballet dance instructor. She volunteered at the Milburn Stone Theater at Cecil College, where she served as an usher and in the wardrobe department making costumes and costume changes during performances.

Carolyn is survived by her six children: Jolynn Carol Mellis, Sue-Ellen Pritt, Steven William Vandervort, Sharon-Kay Hering, Matthew Earl Vandervort and Lisa-Anne Brown; her cousin: John Shedwick; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and also 5 great-great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 4:00 pm at St. John's United Methodist Church, 240 Market Street, Charlestown, MD 21914.  Pastor Barbara Auer will officiate.
