Carol Sue Perkins, 90, of North East, MD passed from this life on Thursday, December 11 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and music. She was preceded by her husband and musical partner Horace Perkins.
Born in Oak Harbor, OH to Harry and Olive (Bordeaux) Wheeler, Carol Sue lived most recently at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD. She is survived by her children, Dr. David Perkins (Sue), Carol Lee Lynch (Peter) and Beth Stallard (John), her brother Tom Wheeler (Donna) of Greenville, SC, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Carol Sue’s talent as a singer was evident at an early age. She won vocal competitions throughout the Midwest and eventually came to Philadelphia to study at the Curtis Institute of Music. As a soloist and singer with gospel groups such as Voice of the Hills, Carol Sue became acquainted with Rev. George Palmer who enlisted her to sing at evangelistic meetings and on his daily radio program. Accompanied on piano and organ by her husband Horace, Carol Sue gained musical notoriety through Palmer’s Morning Cheer radio program and performances at Sandy Cove Bible Conference and churches all over the northeastern United States. Well-loved by thousands, Carol Sue’s distinctive soprano voice, vibrant personality and big smile will be missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 19 at 11:00 at Sandy Cove Ministries, Chesapeake Auditorium, 60 Sandy Cove Road, North East, MD. Visitation will begin at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Sandy Cove Ministries.
