Billy Ray Church “Big B”, a devoted family man and skilled heavy equipment operator, passed away peacefully at his home in Rising Sun, Maryland, on Monday, April 27, 2026. He was 76 years old.

Born on November 11, 1949, in Jolo, West Virginia, Billy Ray was a cherished son of the late Vernon and Patty (Osborne) Church. From an early age, he developed passions that would define much of his life, his love for cars, motorcycles, and the craft of welding. These interests not only reflected his deep connection to hands-on work but also showcased his dedication to precision and creativity. Throughout his life, he embraced the challenges of heavy equipment operation with a steadfast work ethic, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Billy Ray’s journey was enriched by the close bonds he shared with his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lillian (Green) Church, whose companionship brought him great joy and comfort. Together, they built a life grounded in mutual respect and affection. Their daughter, Amy Eastridge and her husband Michael Eastridge of North East, Maryland, carries forward his legacy of kindness and strength. His son, Billy Ray Church, Jr., of Rising Sun, Maryland, reflects the unbreakable ties of a father’s guidance and example.

He was also the beloved brother to three sisters Shirley Mackey, Sue Stanton, and Joyce Speck who remain a testament to the enduring family values instilled during their upbringing. The memories they shared speak to a lifetime of laughter, support, and shared experiences, also numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.

He was predeceased by his parents Vernon and Patty (Osborne) Church his sister Lorine Nowland and two brothers Lonnie “Wayne” Church, Jr. and Vernon Church Jr.

Billy Ray Church lived a life marked by hard work, passion, and deep familial love. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him, but his spirit endures in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he touched.
