Betty Jewel (Garner) Jackson

Betty Jewel (Garner) Jackson, whose unwavering faith and gentle spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her, completed her earthly journey on April 24, 2025 at the age of 84. Born on August 16, 1940, in Conyers, GA, to Floyd & Ruby (Persall) Garner, Betty carried the warmth and hospitality of the South throughout her life.

For 60 years, Betty was a cornerstone of the First Baptist Church of North East, not just attending, but actively nurturing the spiritual lives of others in numerous capacities. She poured her heart into the youth as their dedicated Sunday School teacher. Her love for the community shone through her enthusiastic involvement as a VBS Director. She meticulously served the congregation as Church Secretary, and ensured the financial health of the church as its trusted Treasurer and diligent Financial Secretary. Her dedicated work as Women on Mission President was a testament to her deep commitment to her faith and church family. Her voice also enriched worship as a devoted choir member. Alongside all of this, she faithfully taught the Women’s Sunday School class until she went home to be with the Lord.

Beyond her church life, Betty was a familiar and trusted face at the First National Bank of North East, where her professionalism and friendly demeanor were appreciated by colleagues and customers alike.

Her greatest earthly love was her family. She was the devoted wife of George "Sonny" Jackson. Together, they built a legacy of love carried on by their sons, Richard (Margie) and Eric (Sandy). Betty delighted in her grandchildren, Chrissy Norton (Andrew), Rachel Manella (Dominick), Matthew Jackson (Sara), and Andrew Jackson (Andrea), and was blessed with three great-granddaughters, who brought a sparkle to her eye. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Garner (Jenann). Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George “Sonny” Jackson, her brother, James C. Garner and her sisters, Helen Blalock, Lorene Garner and Colleen White.

A Celebration of Betty's remarkable life and enduring faith will be held at the First Baptist Church of North East with a viewing on Friday, May 9, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and a funeral service on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 am. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Harford Memorial Gardens. The family then invites all who loved Betty to join them for a fellowship meal following her burial, at the First Baptist Church of North East.

In honor of Betty's dedication to the Lord, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the First Baptist Church of North East.
