Betty Virginia Hammond

Betty Virginia Hammond, 78 of North East, MD, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 in the Gilchrist Hospice, Hunt Valley, MD. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, she was born in North East, MD, on May 13, 1932, the daughter of the late Elmer L. and the late Elizabeth Laird Parrett. Mrs. Parrett worked at Union Hospital in Laundry and Housekeeping. She is survived by two daughters: Betty Parrett Smith and her husband Lynn of St. Leonard, MD and Beverly Parrett Lewis of North East, MD; her grandson, Douglas W. Hines, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Huddleston, VA; two great grandsons, Solomon and Ethan Hines both of Huddleston, VA; two brothers: James R. Parrett and William F. Parrett both of Rising Sun, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Harry 'Poke' Hammond; an infant son; a sister: Elizabeth Parrett Perovich and 7 brothers: Harry, Mulford, Elmer, Jr., Howard, Cecil, Ralph and Charles Parrett. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Ralph Massie will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 7:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will begin at 5:00 PM. Private interment will be in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
