Bertha Virginia Hackworth Parks, 85 of Cecil Woods, Elkton, MD went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 29, 2010. She was born in Campbell County, Virginia, May 10, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Columbus Hackworth and Bertha Corrine Wilson Hackworth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard A. Parks, Sr. to whom she was married 62 years and beloved daughter Virginia Linell Parks. Also her sisters, Myrtle Hackworth and Maybelle Quarles. Surviving sisters are Sally Pagans of Vinton, VA and Mamie Pittmon of Hurt, VA. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, granny, sister and friend to many. The care she provided to others will touch lives forever. Survivors include her son Willard A. Parks, Jr. and wife Carol, of Bridgeville, DE; and daughter Deborah J. Smith and husband Donald of Rising Sun, MD.; five grandchildren, Brice Parks and wife Denise of Preston, MD; Teresa Raynor and husband Nathan of Bridgeville, DE; Nathan Smith and wife Jennifer of Rising Sun, MD; Brant Parks and his wife Brandy of Seaford, DE; and Jennie Terrizzi and husband Scott, of Alpharetta, GA; and 11 great grandchildren with the 12th great grandchild due in May. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to her and she devoted her life to caring for them. Virginia was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary. She was a homemaker that enjoyed plants, hummingbirds and Orioles baseball. Although she received no medals for her years of service to her family and friends, overnights with Granny and Pop, which included the greatest breakfast anywhere, and the numerous fun trips with Granny will provide years of enjoyment as fond memories for many. The family will receive friends at a viewing scheduled at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901 on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and again on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral will be officiated by the Rev. Steve Brannen at Crouch Funeral Home on Friday, April 2, 1010 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Bel Air Memorial Garden, Bel Air MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
